June 14th and 15th marked the dates of the Chevrolet Youth Baseball Clinic held here at Huntington Park with the Columbus Clippers. Chevrolet dealers across the country are trying to make big difference in the lives of youth baseball league participants in their communities by providing free instructional clinics. These clinics are funded by Chevrolet dealerships and give participants the opportunity to receive training from experienced instructors. Youth league members will spend a half day learning the fundamentals of baseball such as hitting, fielding, and pitching with professional instruction provided by former or current Major or Minor League players and coaches. The clinic was split into different sections with head trainers Chad Wolfe and Scott Nealon leading a group stretching session to start. Manger Chris Tremie and catcher Eric Kratz highlighted the next session based around catching. Cole Sulser and Tyler Olsen joined in to teach the young players about making plays in the outfield while Coach Jerry Owens, position player Ronnie Rodriguez and Louis Head showed the mechanics necessary to make plays in the infield. The final sessions of the camp featured hitting coach Rouglas Odor, catcher Jeremy Lucas and pitcher Michael Peoples letting the young players take some swings on the field and have their swings analyzed. Pitching coach Steve Karsay and pitcher Josh Martin rounded out the eventful day with a lesson on pitching mechanics and tips to stay focused on the mound. Overall, the young baseball players enjoyed the day and were very active and involved with the players.
